Also, the liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery has been smartly placed outside of the vehicle below the floor of the second-row seats rather than taking up a valuable portion of the available cargo space. It also measures less than one-third the size of the old Escape Hybrid battery.

If hybrid isn’t your thing, the Escape offers two gasoline engines. The standard 1.5L EcoBoost® engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
